NATIONAL CALENDAR AWARDS 2012

A Calendar based around the theories of the end of the world in 2012, according to the studies of the Mayan calendar. The aim was to create a calendar that was equally as hilarious as these theories whilst questioning popular views and opinions of it’s target demographic. The idea was to create a some-what survival guide to the post apocalyptic landscape that you would be welcomed to in 2013. References to popular sources in the media were used to emphasize the way in which society is easily influenced and somehow frightened by the unexpected; how the media uses the tactic of fear to scare the general public.  For these reasons the copy used within the typographic imagery is quite light hearted and fun for the viewer.

“So the Mayans were right?” This quote helped carry the concept throughout the calendar and gave a clear idea to what the calendar represents and who it would be targeted at. I referenced popular post apocalyptic shows to salute the characters and popular story-lines within programs such as The Walking Dead.
In the end the calendar is a cleanly designed piece with a little bit extra to entice the target audience. If the world does happen to end in 2012 then it could be a handy A1 survival guide to carry around; to map the days ahead, whilst reminiscing about how it was before everything went tits up!
